28 Years Later and the Nightmare Isn’t Over
Imagine if our world is suddenly hit by a zombie virus, and worse, a vaccine for the virus has not yet been found... even until 28 years later.
That's the premise of 28 Years Later, a continuation of the legendary film 28 Days Later starring Cillian Murphy, and 28 Weeks Later starring Jeremy Renner. It took more than two decades for this story to finally continue on the big screen!
In the film 28 Years Later, which will air starting June 20, 2025, unfortunately, Cillian Murphy does not appear as the main character. But don't worry, there's good news, it's been confirmed that there will be a sequel, and Cillian Murphy will be back in action there!
The film focuses on the story of a 12-year-old boy named Spike, played by Alfie Williams. Spike must go to the mainland to learn to kill zombies. He is accompanied by his father, Jammie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Her mother, Isla (played by Jodie Comer), also appears in the story but is sick and has some disturbing hallucinations.
Spike's first trip was immediately filled with tension. He has to deal with the Alpha Zombie, an upgraded version of the zombie that's much bigger, stronger, and creepier than the regular zombie. What makes me horrified is that it turns out that even ordinary zombies have changed a lot. Some zombies can't walk normally and can only crawl... Some even only eat worms. It's really disturbing.
But what makes this film level up is the sound. The background music is not playful. I got goosebumps when Alpha Zombie first appeared. If you haven't watched it, try checking the trailer first so you can get the feel.
There are so many thrilling moments that are pumped through the music. Without the music, the tension of this film might not have been as intense.
Actually, there are still many exciting things that I want to say about this movie, but I'm afraid to spoil hehe. So, in the meantime, I just give you a rating...
Overall? 7/10. Not perfect, but definitely worth the watch.
